Strawberry Basil Vodka Lemonade

Man, I am so into making cocktails right now. I’ve noticed myself leaning towards alcoholic beverages that focus on quality over quantity, and to be able to experiment and make my own cocktails at home has been really satisfying.

I came across an Instagram post by @carolinagelen that boasted the best lemonade base recipe (see below). Naturally, I wanted to make it and see for myself (and obviously, its amazing). As I was planning, I figured lets throw some extra ingredients in there and see where that takes me- and thus, this cocktail was created. The best part? if you want to make it a mocktail, just leave out the vodka.

To make a Strawberry Basil Vodka Lemonade, you will need…

  • 1-2 strawberries

  • 1 large or 2 small basil leaves

  • 4 ounces lemonade

  • 2 ounces vodka

  • 2 ounces club soda

  • Extra sugar for rimming the glass (if desired)

Muddle strawberries and basil leaves and add lemonade, vodka, and ice to a shaker. Shake vigorously. Strain over ice in a sugar rimmed glass. Top with club soda.

To make the Lemonade Base, you will need…

  • 6-8 large lemons

  • 1/2 cup sugar

Add sugar to a small bowl. Zest 3 lemons into the sugar. Using your hands, incorporate the zest into the sugar. Add fresh squeezed lemon juice. Mix to combine. Store lemonade base in a sealed jar in the refrigerator. When ready to use mix 1 part lemonade base to 6 parts water.
