Andrea’s Old Fashioned
I bought my house on Sunnybrook in 2018 and within 48 hours of closing, I was invited to a neighborhood party two doors down at Andrea’s house. Within minutes of arriving, I knew I landed in the right neighborhood. Fast forward almost 3 years and my neighbor Andrea has become a close friend and confidant. Andrea is also the queen of casual drinking and can make a mean no-fuss Old Fashioned. I frantically wrote the instructions on my Notes app as Andrea was making them for us one random night, and I’ve been making them this way ever since.
The ingredients are very basic. One sugar cube, a splash of water, bitters (orange or original flavor), Luxardo cherry, and bourbon. I prefer Bulleit Rye but will gladly make with Bulleit Bourbon. The point of this drink is for it to be quick and non-intimidating, but will impress whoever you’re making one for.
Add sugar cube and 1-2 shakes of Angostura bitters to rocks glass.
Add small amount of water to glass and muddle the sugar cube.
Add a Luxardo cherry (these are expensive, but trust me, they make a difference).
Pour in 1 1/2 oz bourbon, Or just count to 5 while pouring.
Finish with ice.
